Leave your cat at home while on vacation.

Find information about how you can safely leave your feline companion at home while you go on vacation.

For WONDERFUL pet items go to the Kitty Cat Store

If you decide to leave your cat at home, I would always recommend leaving a single cat home alone for only three or four days without a cat sitter.  If you leave your cat home, be sure to provide toys for her to play with while you are gone.  A single feline can get very lonely without human or another cat’s companionship.  A cat that is lonely might stop eating and drinking water, or stop using her pottie box or become destructive.  Any one of these situations could be very disastrous for you and your pet.

You need to remember three issues when it comes to your "stay inside" feline.  The first item would be food, the second is water, and the third would be the pottie box.

Let’s talk about food

first.  If your cat will not eat dry food, then you would need to find someone to cat sit for you to supply fresh food on a daily basis.  Your cat sitter can take care of all of your cats needs.  If your cat will eat dry food only, then there are a lot more options for you.  There is available in our Amazon Store link to the right, “fountain” dry food feeders that will drop down dry food continually for an extended period of time.  “Fountain” water dispensers are also available, so your stay away could be extended to as long as the feed/water would supply food and water to your animals.

The pottie box is another issue.  There are available pottie boxes that “scoop themselves”.  I have been very successful with either the self scooping or the “Scoop Free” type of pottie boxes.  Your success will depend on how many cats you have and how much they use the pottie box.  You should monitor how it is working before you leave.

If you have a cat that is an inside/outside cat, be sure your pet can enter through a pet door if your cat’s food and water is inside the house.  Depending on where you live, an inside/outside feline may have to share his food with other animals if it is left outside.  You may also have other animals entering through your pet door unless your pet has a device to open her door.  Just be aware of this when you are thinking through your vacation setup.

Before leaving on a trip, I would recommend putting your feeder, waterier and pottie box in place and see how your cats get along without you changing litter in the box, or adding water or food to the feeders.  If there is a problem, you will be there to resolve it before you leave.

You know your cat or cats better than anyone else.  You need to do for your pets what ever needs to be done to protect their well being while you are gone.
